Join us for the first volume of ๐‘ฉ๐’‚๐’š๐’‚๐’ ๐‘ฒ๐’, a series of films and workshops on the Philippine struggle. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

This screening will tackle historic and present day currents against imperialism within Filipino society, as expressed through resistance against the exploitation of land and water. The programme will consist of three short films, weaved together through song and prose, collecting stories across generations of peopleโ€™s struggle. Exploring barriers in physical and societal form, we hope to demonstrate how corporations fail to pit communities against each other.

A warm (vegan & gluten-free) meal and presentation will precede the programme, including an explainer of this series, and a brief history of the Philippines and its resistance against imperialist forces. After the films, we will host a bilao slogan making workshop. Bilao is a woven, flat basket traditionally used for winnowing rice, but now serves as a tray to hold food as well as a protest symbol, especially in the context of the land justice struggle. We will be explaining the practices around painting the bilao, the meanings of various slogans, and of course, paint them ourselves!
