Move On Over Or We'll Move On Over You
A condemnation of CCA’s Zionist board
See the original publishing of this article hereAs co-organisers of the Glasgow edition of Falastin Film Fest (FFF), we are horrified that after being welcomed so warmly by CCA staff in May, the centre’s board has chosen to forcibly raise its borders. Not only was the CCA community shut out, one of the festivals’ workshop facilitators was physically assaulted by CCA security, resulting in bruised arms and ongoing foggy vision. Calling the cops on its own community is the newest low in a series of shameless actions by CCA’s board.
The line has been drawn. The CCA board in the face of the popular demand to boycott the Zionist entity, has instead chosen to act as an accomplice of imperialism and Zionism. The board has sullied the name of the institution, letting it be synonymous with genocide. They have shown us that they do not exist to serve our community or any causes they appropriate! The fault in every action here lies directly with the board.
We wish to highlight the revolutionary era of third cinema in which film-workers alongside guerrilla fighters, all throughout the world created our own people's cinema, our own methods of distribution, our own people's culture. As these institutions continue to fail us, we must move forward and continue down the path of liberation - with or without them. Our eternal blessings go to Listen Gallery - our liberated zone.
We also reiterate our support to Art Workers for Palestine and their demands:
- That charges are immediately dropped against the people who were sitting in the foyer between the bar and CCA.
- The immediate resignation of Roddy Hunter and chair of the board Jean Cameron, who have colluded with the police in this violent attack on our community.
- We ask everyone to email staff@cca-glasgow.com, gen@cca-glasgow.com, and r.hunter@gsa.ac.uk to demand their resignation. Roddy Hunter should also be removed from his position at Glasgow School of Art. Please BCC artworkersforpalestinescotland@gmail.com, as we are concerned that people’s complaints are not being logged.
- We ask people to raise concerns urgently with OSCR, the Scottish charities regulator, highlighting the Board’s failure to follow safeguarding procedures which put CCA workers, artists and the public at serious risk of harm. Visit https://www.oscr.org.uk/raise-a-concern/ to do so.
