24-10-2025 - Solidarity Is Something You Can Hold In Your Hands
On Friday the 24th of October from 6-10pm, Rupture Cinema and Solidarity Screenings Glasgow will stage a screening of three short films at Strange Field in Glasgow’s East End. The curation will broadly reflect on the themes of internationalism and revolutionary violence. Covering Ireland, Palestine, New Afrika and Cuba, the programme will show how filmmaking can observe, reflect on and contribute to international solidarity.
The films will be introduced with a presentation by Rupture and Solidarity Screenings members framing the films and our collaboration. Following the films a warm (gluten-free & vegan) meal will be served with space for guided discussion.
The event overall takes place to raise funds for Gaza; as the slogan of the screening suggests: solidarity is something material. As such, we recommended a donation upon entry, which will be split between our chosen organisations Palestine Aid Ireland and The Sameer Project. Both organisations reject the clientelism common to charities and have proven to have real, on the ground impact in Gaza. Nevertheless, the screening is free and unticketed. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
This event is the first leg of a Glasgow Weekender in collaboration with Rupture Cinema, 1815 FC and Secret Groundsman. The football end of things takes the form of a walking Tour of Public Pitches playing as we go starting in Govanhill Park at 11:30am on Saturday. We encourage everyone to also attend that and make the connections and friends we know are bristling to happen. All levels of footballing experience welcome!
